MARIELA AND THE SEA

May 23, 2014

I’ve mentioned in an earlier post that I fell in love with the sea only as an adult, after I lived several years in Mexico. However, only recently I realized our "relationship" is actually much deeper and it goes back to my childhood years, although then it was rather sporadic. In a way, it’s almost as if I had this platonic love affair with the Pacific Ocean for a few consecutive summers but later I found a more stable, lasting love in the Caribbean.

CARIBEÑA

November 10, 2013

When I was younger I was very afraid of the sea and I think that feeling was very normal as I lived nowhere near it (although, on second thought, the Amazon resembled an ocean in some respects). Our summer vacations with the family in Lima would always include Sunday trips to the beach but I never considered the Pacific Ocean a friend, since to me it was rather intimidating with its darkness, cold temperatures and big waves.

HOW I'M SPENDING MY FREE TIME NOW THAT I'M NOT TRAVELING
September 18, 2020

There are a many reasons why people travel. Some say that getting away and exploring places allow them to appreciate our planet’s beauty and diversity. Others may do it out of curiosity or to fight boredom. In my case, I travel not only out of genuine interest in getting to know other cultures and as a path to personal growth, but also because travel is fundamental to what I do to earn a living.

October 16, 2019

In my first Instagram post of the year, I said that my plan for 2019 was to keep exploring. Little did I know then that would include leaving Atlanta for good the next month. It’s been 8 months since I moved to Miami because of a job opportunity and I think it’s about time I share with everyone the best about this experience so far. Here’s a short list of those things, in no particular order.

5 PLACES IN ATLANTA I LOVE
May 22, 2019

As some of my readers may already know, I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for almost 10 years, before moving to Miami this past February. I can’t really say why, but in Atlanta I felt right at home from day one. And although I saw it change quite a bit throughout my time there, I still love it very much and I also miss it now and then. I had started writing this post when I was still living there and, since I was feeling a bit nostalgic in recent days, I just couldn’t procrastinate anymore…I had to finish it so I could share it with y’all. These are 5 places in the A that I really enjoy, in no particular order.

MY PERSONAL FAVORITE MEXICAN EXPRESSIONS
September 5, 2018

I had the good fortune to spend seven and a half years of my life in beautiful Playa del Carmen, Mexico. As a native Spanish speaker, adapting to my new home was pretty smooth for the most part, although I did find some differences between Peruvian and Mexican culture (which is quite normal, of course). Those differences were probably more noticeable in both our accents and terminology. Here, I am sharing a short list with a few expressions Mexican frequently use that I really like.
